Response to Intervention - RTI (Multi-Tiered System of Supports / MTSS)
Response to Intervention commonly referred to as RTI is a process designed to help schools focus on high quality interventions that are matched to student needs and monitored on a frequent basis. The information gained from the RTI process is used by school personnel and parents to adapt instruction and to make decisions regarding the student's educational program.
RTI is a 3-tier intervention service model:
Tier I services are provided for all students through the regular classroom instruction.
Tier II services/interventions are provided for students who have been identified has having a learning need based on classroom, school, district and/or state data.
Tier III students are students who have not responded to the Tier I basic instruction as well as the Tier II interventions and continue to show a deficit in one or more academic areas.
